about

“The Price of Peace” came out of reflecting on the nature of peace, what it means, what it costs, to what extent and at whose expense it’s made possible. One inspiration for it was the short story “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin, which considers an idyllic society that can only exist because of the unspeakable suffering of one individual. Another was the film “The Home and the World” by Satyajit Ray, which depicts the life of a Bengali aristocrat’s wife who is both protected from and not allowed to participate in the society around her.

While in today’s world it’s hard not to be aware of the worst kinds of oppression happening all around us, I think that in a lot of ways the occupation of Palestine is one of the central injustices of our time. All proceeds from this track will go to Stop the War Coalition, a campaign pressure group that opposes armed conflict in general and has been involved in organizing the recent protests against the brutal destruction that has been going on in Palestine in the last couple of weeks. If you feel moved to please send an amount of your choice via the bandcamp page, or even better you can donate directly to Stop the War and let me know I’ll send you the track as a free download here: www.stopwar.org.uk
